Peter Mandelson released from bail conditions

The Metropolitan Police said Lord Peter Mandelson had been released from bail conditions but the investigation was ongoing.

Lord Mandelson was arrested last month on suspicion of misconduct in public office after police received a tip-off from the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, that he was a flight risk.

The former Labor member was later released on bail and his lawyer denied the allegations.

The Metropolitan Police have now confirmed that his bail conditions have been lifted and he has instead been released under investigation.

A Met spokesman said: “A 72-year-old man arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office has been released under investigation.

“The investigation continues”

Lord Mandelson was sacked as the UK’s ambassador to the US last year and resigned from the Labor Party and the House of Lords earlier this month when new emails emerged in the latest installment of the so-called Epstein files in the US.

He was arrested in late February on suspicion of abuse of public office following allegations that he leaked sensitive government information to Jeffrey Epstein.

Police carried out the arrest despite an earlier agreement that Lord Mandelson would speak to police voluntarily. It followed what the former cabinet minister’s lawyers claimed was an “unfounded suggestion that he was planning to leave the country”.
