UK and France carry out strikes against ISIS target in Syria
The Ministry of Defense said RAF Typhoons, together with French aircraft, carried out a joint attack on Saturday evening on an underground facility occupied by ISIS in Syria and most likely used to store weapons and explosives.
Defense Secretary John Healey MP said: “This action demonstrates our leadership in the UK and our determination to stand shoulder to shoulder with our allies to prevent the resurgence of ISIS and their dangerous and violent ideology in the Middle East.
“I would like to thank all members of our Armed Forces who participated in this operation for their professionalism and courage.
“They were among thousands of British personnel deployed over Christmas and New Year. This operation to eliminate dangerous terrorists who threaten our way of life shows how our Armed Forces are prepared to step up to the plate, keeping Britain safe at home and strong abroad all year round.”
The Ministry of Defense said there was no indication that the attack posed any risk to civilians and all aircraft returned safely.
