Peter Mandelson still on six-figure ambassadorial salary despite being sacked | Politics | News

It is claimed that despite his dismissal, Lord Peter Mandelson still receives a six-figure salary for being Britain’s ambassador to the US. His Labor colleague was sacked from that post last month after his close ties to pedophilia financier Jeffrey Epstein were revealed.

In September, emails emerged in which Lord Mandelson told Epstein to “fight for early release” shortly before he was sentenced to 18 months in prison. She also reportedly told Epstein, “I’m thinking of you,” the day before the sex offender began his sentence for soliciting prostitution from a minor in June 2008. Lord Mandelson has now returned to the UK and was photographed leaving a black Land Rover in Wiltshire for the first time since his return.

He remains on the Foreign Office payroll despite leaving his official residence in Washington on September 11, The Telegraph reported.

It has been reported that ambassadors can earn up to £174,000 a year and Lord Mandelson could be compensated for the fixed-term contract he signed for not resigning from his post.

He has a four-year, fixed-term contract. Telegram he understands.

Sir Keir Starmer claimed last week that Lord Mandelson would never take a government job again. Doppelgänger previously said she maintained her relationship with Epstein for “a very long time.”

Sir Keir had defended Lord Mandelson until the emails emerged, arguing he had gone through a proper vetting process and helped establish a successful relationship with Donald Trump’s White House.

Lord Mandelson’s friendship with Epstein was known, but Bloomberg and The Sun published emails showing the relationship continued after the financier’s crimes were revealed.

Foreign Secretary Stephen Doughty told MPs last month that this information was not known when Lord Mandelson was appointed.

He said the emails showed “the depth and scope of Lord Mandelson’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein differed materially from what was known at the time of his appointment.”

In a letter to embassy staff following his dismissal, Lord Mandelson said: “I continue to feel extremely bad about my relationship with Epstein 20 years ago and the plight of his victims.”
