Petroleum Ministry doubles allocation of small cylinders for migrant workers in all States

The daily quantity of 5kg free trade LPG cylinders available for distribution to migrant workers in each State has been doubled, the Ministry of Petroleum said in an order issued late on Monday, April 6, 2026.

The doubling of quantity would be based on the average daily supply, i.e. the number of vials distributed daily between March 2 and March 3, and would go beyond the 20% limit as mandated in an earlier order.

“It is reported that the daily quantity of 5 kg FTL cylinders available in each State for distribution to migrant workers has been doubled beyond the specified 20% limit based on the average daily supply (i.e. number of cylinders) issued to migrant workers between March 2-3. [in the March 21 order]He read the communication sent by the Secretary of the Union Ministry of Petroleum to the States.

The latest order aims to strengthen the availability and supply of small cylinders, primarily aimed at meeting the needs of the migrant population in urban and semi-urban areas.

The notification also stated that the cylinders would be at the disposal of the State governments and their food and/or civil supplies and were intended to be supplied only to migrant workers in their states.

Around 6.75 lakh such cylinders have been sold since March 23, the government said on Monday.
