Penn State student Billy Schmidt tragically died near his family’s home in Philadelphia. The moment he was shot while trying to take his phone from two suspects was recorded on the security camera. His sister Anna Schmidt made an emotional appeal for justice. Penn State expressed its condolences and local police are actively searching for those responsible for this senseless crime.

Philadelphia police have issued arrest warrants for two 16-year-olds who allegedly killed Billy Schmidt as he walked home from an NBA Finals viewing party on June 6.
A Philadelphia Police Department spokesperson told Fox News Digital that arrest warrants have been issued for the two boys, both 16 years old. Fox News Digital is withholding their names because they are minors and have not yet been charged.
Schmidt, 22, was killed during an attempted armed robbery at around 1:30 a.m. on June 6. Officers found the Penn State student with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to a local hospital but was pronounced dead at 1:47 a.m.
The young people are not in custody yet.

In the images captured on security cameras, Schmidt can be heard saying “Give me my phone” and then a gunshot is heard. The video shows Schmidt running around a corner and a man throwing his cellphone in front of another person, who was then shot in the chest.
The shooter was described by police as a Black male, between 6-foot-10 and 5-foot-7, “wearing all dark (black) clothing and a light gray camouflage colored face mask.” Authorities said this man was armed with a handgun.

The second suspect was described by police as being 5 feet 10 inches tall and wearing a light gray, custom-designed “KONFUSED” branded hooded sweatshirt with braids and “a design featuring three skulls on the front and crossbones with a jeweled halo over each skull.”
The U.S. Marshals Service also joined the search for the teens, offering $5,000 for information leading to their arrest.

Bill Schmidt, the victim’s father, said: ABC7 He said his son was on his way home from a bar where he watched the NBA Finals with his friends.
“He was a really good person who cared about everybody, didn’t hurt or bother anybody, didn’t make anybody uncomfortable, and for him to be shot like that is a travesty,” Bill Schmidt said. “I’m surprised he ran after them when they stole his phone.”

Billy’s sister, Anna Schmidt, told reporters she didn’t know how someone could have killed her brother.

“I miss him so much and I don’t understand how anyone could do this,” Anna Schmidt said.
Schmidt was a student studying journalism at Penn State World Campus and was scheduled to graduate in December.
