Philip Rivers’ performance on the football field for the Indianapolis Colts at the age of 44 made it seem like at least one NFL legend might get back out there and kick the bucket.
Steve Young said in an interview before the San Francisco 49ers play the Colts on Monday that he still believes he can make something and succeed in the NFL, even though he is 64 years old. Young joked earlier this month that he was “offended” that the Colts didn’t call him up for tryout for the first time.

But in an interview San Francisco ChronicleYoung seemed confident he could go out and do the little things for his NFL team.
“I definitely feel confident that I can make a staggering move, run the screen game, throw the ball straight down the field, maybe make a slant shot,” he told the newspaper. “… It’s not like, ‘Put on the pads and go play.’ If it were ‘The Hunger Games’ though? If they say you have to do this or you die? Yes, you can accomplish something.”

“It allows all of us to say even more: ‘Can I go out there for five plays? Can I go out there and play the screen game?’ Because you must remember that we were all the best in the world at something. Then we dated and we’re not the best at anything else. So you want to keep doing what you’re best at in the world.”
It’s not like Rivers lifts his arm back and throws the ball down the court. Rivers’ passing looks more like a hook shot style than anything else, and that was evident in the team’s loss to the 49ers that night.
If Young ever gets on the field again, it would be a remarkable situation. The Hall of Famer finished his career with three Super Bowl championships, seven Pro Bowls and three First Team All-Pro nominations. He last played for the 49ers in 1999.
