Philles’ Daniel Robert suffers cardiac event

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Daniel Robert suffered a serious medical emergency Sunday morning at the team’s practice facility in Florida.
Robert was at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater when he had a heart attack. to MLB.com. He was on the pitcher’s mound near half-field after completing his first bullpen session since October.

In October, Robert also had a heart attack. Doctors placed an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) near his chest over the winter. According to the report, the device was triggered as he was leaving the mound on Sunday.
“I was standing right behind him,” manager Rob Thomson said afterwards. “It was scary because he fell down, started getting back up and went back down again.”
He added that it was “very scary.”

Robert was taken to hospital and released a few hours after the incident.
The 31-year-old pitcher was selected in the 21st round of the MLB Amateur Draft by the Texas Rangers in 2017. He made four appearances for Rangers in 2024. He struck out six in 5.2 innings.
Robert was traded to the Phillies in April 2025 for minor leaguer Enrique Segura. He made 15 appearances in Philadelphia, striking out 15 batters and allowing seven runs, six earned, in 13 innings.
