Pilot Phase Of Universal Health Screening launched In Kuppam

What are you doing? The Andhra Pradesh government has launched the Universal Health Screening programme, which aims to map the state’s disease burden and develop targeted health interventions under the Arogya Andhra vision.

The pilot phase of the initiative was launched in Kuppam constituency on Wednesday, marking the first step towards statewide implementation. The project covers 93 villages and aims to conduct comprehensive medical screenings of approximately 90,000 residents in the constituency.

The screenings will include 49 tests focusing on noncommunicable diseases such as diabetes, liver and kidney disorders and cardiovascular disorders, officials said. The data collected will be used to develop a detailed health profile of the population, allowing the government to plan preventive and remedial measures more effectively.

To support the pilot phase, Bavarian Health Services has established three diagnostic centers in Kuppam equipped with advanced laboratory infrastructure, including fully automated biochemistry, hematology and electrolyte analyzers. These centers will process up to 2,000 samples per day and perform confirmatory tests such as complete blood table, liver function test, kidney function test and blood sugar test.

During the 45-day phase, it is envisaged that the teams will visit each village daily to collect approximately 50 samples and transport them within the scope of the cold chain protocol to ensure accuracy and reliability. District officials along with Kuppam district development authority members, ASHA and ANO workers are mobilizing community participation to ensure smooth implementation.

Officials described the project as the first of its kind in the country, combining mass health screening with data-driven analysis and community engagement. The Kuppam pilot program is recommended to be a model for expanding the universal health screening program across the state.

KADA project director Vikas Narmat, MLC Kancharla Srikanth, APSRTC vice-chairman PS Muniratnam and Palamaner Kuppam Madanapalle urban development authority chairman Suresh Babu attended the launch event.
