PM apologises for crude Kylie Minogue remarks
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has apologized for saying he wanted to “fuck” pop darling Kylie Minogue during a rough game in a podcast interview after his remarks were condemned by women across the political spectrum.
Albanese gave “Bushie”, also known as comedian Nikki Osborne, special access to his home for an episode of the programme. bush deep Podcast featuring Australian famous women participating in the “make love, marry, date” game.
“Making love, marrying, dating: Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman or Rhonda Burchmore?” Osborne asked.
After Albanese tried to dodge the question by saying he was only six months into his marriage, Osborne asked what he would do if the marriage deteriorated.
“Oh, Kylie, definitely,” Albanese said.
“Will you marry Kylie, make love with her, and date her?” Osborne said:
“All of the above,” Albanese said.
The Prime Minister issued a brief statement through his office on Monday, saying: “I publicly apologize for the comments.”
Strong Community Australian MP Zali Steggall said Albanese should lead by example as the leader of the nation and asked him to explain why he understood the interview was offensive.
“I would invite him to pause and reflect on his actions and make some comments about whether he fully understands how disrespectful that was to his wife and to women,” Steggall said.
“If we’re going to change the culture, it’s actually going to change from top to bottom. So there’s a serious question mark about why he doesn’t have the judgment to think that this is an inappropriate speech for the prime minister of a country at a time like this.”
Richard Marles, who was acting prime minister while Albanese was in Fiji, and Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek defended the prime minister on Monday, pointing out that the majority are women. But Steggall said that didn’t work.
“This does not excuse disrespect, and in fact respect is shown through behavior and actions, not the number of people.”
Coalition leading figure Sarah Henderson said: Australian The comments were “disrespectful to women, embarrassing to Australians and degrading to the prime minister’s office”.
During the podcast interview, the prime minister also claimed he planned to have sex with wife Jodie Haydon after the match.
“It’s always a good aphrodisiac, the South wins,” he said.
In another interview – when asked about the gifts he had received as Prime Minister – Albanese mentioned “a couple of melons” that Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi brought during her visit in May, to which Osborne replied: “She came looking like Pamela Anderson.”
Osborne’s brash alter-ego gained attention online after he posted satirical and vulgar skits that have been viewed millions of times on YouTube. The Bush Deep podcast is Nova Entertainment’s first video-focused series.
