Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the loss of life in the Jaisalmer bus fire incident, which killed at least 20 people, and announced that a gift of 2 lakh rupees per person would be given to the relatives of the deceased. The official statement from PMO on Tuesday said: “I am saddened by the loss of life due to a mishap in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families during this difficult time. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.” The statement also announced financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). “The next of kin of each deceased will be given a gift of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF. The injured will be given Rs 50,000,” the post on X added.

Meanwhile, Jodhpur Police Commissioner Om Prakash Paswan said, “16 injured people were brought here from Jaisalmer. 15 injured are receiving treatment at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital and one injured is receiving treatment at Shri Ram Hospital.” he said. According to Jaisalmer Additional SP Kailash Dhan, the bus, which was leaving Jaisalmer for Jodhpur around 3 pm, suddenly caught fire near Thaiyat village after smoke was coming out from its rear. The official said, “The moving bus was engulfed in flames. It was reported that there were injuries. The injured were taken to the hospital. Rescue efforts continue.”
