PM Modi Embarks on Two-Day Visit to Bhutan

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Bhutan on Tuesday to attend the 70th birthday celebrations of the Himalayan nation’s fourth king, Jigme Singye Wangchuck. During the visit, Modi will meet Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck, his father and the fourth king’s predecessor and prime minister Tshering Tobgay.
In his statement before starting the visit, Modi said, “I am confident that my visit will further deepen our bonds of friendship and strengthen our efforts towards common progress and prosperity.” he said.
“It will be an honor to join the people of Bhutan in celebrating the 70th birth anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth King,” he said.
Modi said that the display of Sacred Piprahwa Relics of Lord Buddha from India during the organization of the Global Peace Prayer Festival in Bhutan reflects the deep-rooted civilization and spiritual ties of our two countries.
The Prime Minister said the visit will also mark another important milestone in our successful energy partnership with the inauguration of the Punatsangchhu-II hydropower project.
He said India and Bhutan have exemplary ties of friendship and cooperation based on deep mutual trust, understanding and goodwill.
“Our partnership is an important pillar of our Neighborhood First Policy and a model for exemplary friendly relations between neighboring countries,” Modi said. he said.
Later, in a post on
“I will be holding talks with His Majesty the King of Bhutan, His Majesty the Fourth King and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay,” he shared.
Modi said that the Punatsangchhu-II hydroelectric project will be opened as a major boost to the energy partnership between the two countries. “This visit will add new vitality to our bilateral relations.”
