PM Modi extends Chhath greetings

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, October 25, 2025, extended his greetings on the occasion of Chhath, a four-day festival to worship the Sun god celebrated across the country, primarily in Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern UP.
In a post on channel X, the Prime Minister said, “The four-day grand festival of Chhath with the sacred ritual of ‘Nahay-Khay’ begins today. My heartfelt wishes to the devotees in Bihar and the entire nation. My respects and greetings to all those observing the fast.”
He also shared a song by famous singer Sharda Sinha, who increased the festival enthusiasm with her emotional renditions.
Mr. Modi said that on Friday, October 24, 2025, Sinha was in Begusarai, with whom he shares an emotional bond.
“This magnificent festival of our culture symbolizes simplicity and restraint, whose sanctity and adherence to rules are unparalleled. The sights on the ghats of Chhath on this auspicious occasion inspire wonderful familial and social harmony. The ancient tradition of Chhath has had a profound impact on our society,” Mr. Modi said.
“Today, Chhath is celebrated as a great cultural festival in every corner of the world. Indian families living abroad also participate in its traditions with deep sincerity. I pray that Chhathi Maiya bestows abundant blessings on everyone,” he said.
The Prime Minister said that ‘Chhath Mahaparv’ is a unique combination of faith, devotion and love for nature, prayers are offered here to both the setting and rising Sun and even the offerings reflect various shades of nature.
“The songs and melodies sung during Chath are filled with devotion and the spirit of nature,” he said.
“It was a privilege for me to have the opportunity to visit Begusarai yesterday. Sharda Sinha ji, the ‘Kokila’ of Bihar, shares an emotional bond with Begusarai. Sharda Sinha ji and many folk artistes from Bihar have added a special emotion to the Chhath celebrations with their songs,” Mr. Modi said.
