Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed US tech giant Microsoft’s major investment in India’s artificial intelligence (AI) sector. Microsoft chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) Satya Nadella announced that the company will invest $17.5 billion or Rs 1.5 lakh crore in India to strengthen the country’s AI ecosystem, making it the Washington-based firm’s largest ever investment in Asia.
In a post on social media platform “The world is optimistic about India when it comes to AI! We had a very productive discussion with Mr. Satya Nadella. I am happy to see that India is where Microsoft will make its largest ever investment in Asia. India’s youth will take advantage of this opportunity to innovate for a better planet and harness the power of AI,” the Prime Minister wrote in his post.
Microsoft announced that it will invest $17.5 billion in India to support the country’s rapidly expanding artificial intelligence ecosystem. The announcement comes after Nadella’s meeting with Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi, where the two discussed the country’s AI roadmap and growth priorities. In a post on
“Microsoft and India are poised to set new benchmarks over the next decade and drive the country’s transition from digital public infrastructure to AI public infrastructure. We are shaping a future that is more equitable and unique to India in scale and impact,” according to a press release from the company. “Microsoft’s investment in India focuses on three pillars of scale, capability and sovereignty, in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of building a comprehensive ecosystem that fosters AI innovation and access at a national scale,” the statement said.
