Lawyers representing Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have demanded the removal of the Epstein Files after a major publication last Friday included the victims’ names and nude photos.
After at least 43 victims were named, judges were asked to force the Justice Department to remove the files, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The publication reported that many of these women did not share their identities publicly or were underage when they were abused.
The Department of Justice was required to redact the names of all victims before they were released.
More than 3 million pages were published on Friday, including thousands of videos.
“The Department of Justice takes victim protection very seriously and has redacted the names of thousands of victims from millions of published pages to protect the innocent,” a DOJ spokesman told the Wall Street Journal.
“When a victim’s name is alleged to have been redacted, our team works around the clock to correct the issue and republish properly redacted pages as quickly as possible.”
“Every hour counts for Jeffrey Epstein’s victims. The damage continues and is irreversible,” attorneys Brittany Henderson and Brad Edwards wrote in a letter addressed to U.S. District Judges Richard Berman and Paul Engelmayer.
They added that they reported “thousands of editorial errors on behalf of nearly 100 survivors whose lives were disrupted by the DOJ’s latest announcement.”
