Prime Minister Narendra Modi has significantly reduced the convoy size, sources said on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. This change was implemented during his last domestic visit. The reduction in the number of vehicles was achieved while preserving essential safety components in accordance with the Special Protection Group (SPG) protocol.

According to sources, immediately after his speech in Hyderabad, the convoy size was reduced in Gujarat and Assam. The Prime Minister also wanted to include Electric Vehicles in his convoy without making new purchases as much as possible.

Sources also said that while the convoy size has been reduced, all critical security components continue to remain in place in accordance with SPG guidelines to ensure the safety of the Prime Minister.

“Prime Minister Modi has also directed officials to include Electric Vehicles (EVs) in the convoy wherever possible without making any new purchases,” sources added.

The move comes in line with the Prime Minister’s “seven appeals” to citizens to contribute to economic resilience by reducing dependence on imported fuel and adopting environmentally sustainable alternatives.

Addressing a meeting in Secunderabad on Sunday, May 10, 2026, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that patriotism today goes beyond defending the nation at the borders and includes responsible behavior in daily life.

The Prime Minister said, “Patriotism is not just sacrificing one’s life at the border, but also living responsibly in daily life and fulfilling our duties towards the nation during this period.”
