Police called to alligator ‘posted up’ on front porch

Police had to intervene after a crocodile was “hung” on someone’s front door.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office shared a photo of a terrifying scene involving a large alligator on a front porch in South Carolina.

In a Facebook post they wrote: “Another calm, quiet day in Moncks Corner… until an alligator decided it was the type of guy on the front porch.

“BCSO’s Animal Control responded to a residence in Moncks Corner on Charlesfort Road after a homeowner noticed an unexpected guest standing right at the front door… because apparently knocking is now optional.”

When the officer arrived, they “immediately determined that this was not a ‘grab the bag’ situation.”

They continued: “The alligator was significantly larger than the equipment we could safely handle under our standard capture guidelines (and it was also clear that he had no intention of following any instructions).”

The officer then called the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, who joined Animal Control on the scene.

The sheriff’s office added: “Together we were able to safely secure the alligator and relocate him to a more suitable environment.

“This environment was SO far removed from front doors, welcome mats, and future real estate destinations.

“Thanks to everyone for teamwork, professionalism, and reminding us once again that living in South Carolina sometimes means your front porch doubles as a wildlife encounter center.”

They confirmed the animal was “safely released.”

Officials joked: “The alligator was released safely and no furniture on the porch was damaged during this incident.”
