Police confirm arrest after woman in her 80s dies following serious assault

A woman in her 80s has died following a serious attack at a flat in Wiltshire, police said.
Emergency services were called to the flat on Keepers Road in Devizes at around 8.10am on Christmas Day.
Police and medical teams arrived at the scene, but it was determined that the woman died at the scene.
Wiltshire Police confirmed that a 63-year-old woman, known to the victim, had been arrested on suspicion of murder.
The young man, who was hospitalized due to injuries that were not expected to change his life, was treated.
Detective Inspector Alan Smith, of Wiltshire Police’s major crime investigation team, said: “This is a tragic incident in which an elderly woman lost her life on Christmas Day.
“We have arrested a woman known to the victim and I can confirm we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this.
“A crime scene has been established in the flat and an urgent investigation is being carried out, which will also include house-to-house investigations.
“Local people will see an increased police presence over the coming days. If you have any concerns or have any information please do not hesitate to speak to one of our officers.”
Police said the investigation is ongoing to identify the victim’s relatives.
A spokesman added that a cordon had been established at the address and was likely to remain that way for the remainder of Christmas Day and until Boxing Day.
