Police given more time to question men over Islamic event threat

Police have been given more time to question people arrested in connection with an alleged right-wing terrorist threat to an Islamic festival in Suffolk.

The UK Ijtima event, held at Shrubland Hall in Barham, near Ipswich, was closed in the early hours of Sunday after Suffolk Police received information about a “possible threat”.

On Monday, the Counter Terrorism Police (CTP) confirmed that 12 people had been arrested on suspicion of terrorist offences, attempted murder or assisting an offender.

CTP London Commander Helen Flanagan said police officers were given up to seven days to question eight people arrested under the Terrorism Act.

These:

Three people, aged 55, 60 and 82, who were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, were released on bail.

The 48-year-old woman, who was detained on suspicion of aiding the criminal, was also released on bail.
