UK snow maps show huge 715-mile blizzards to bury 70 counties – full list | Weather | News

Snowstorms are expected to crush 70 counties from the tip of Scotland to Dartmoor, while England could be covered in snowfall within weeks. Maps from forecaster WXCharts suggest the north of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland will be covered in snow by March 1, with showers reaching as far south as Devon.
Snowfall is forecast to come in from the Atlantic and hit western parts, leaving the east and south of England largely dry overnight. WXCharts predicted this would produce a staggering 18cm of snowpack over the Pennines, with scattered snow and showers forecast over the previous days.
Mid-Wales and Northern Ireland may experience a lighter descent, with snow depth not expected to exceed 10cm until midnight. In England, Manchester could be among the hardest hit cities, with up to 13cm predicted, while Blackpool could see around 9cm.
Devon may also see a dusting with light snow south of Bristol, but amounts are expected to be moderate.
Temperatures could also drop to a brutal -7C overnight across much of Scotland, and much of the UK could struggle to get above freezing, leading to potentially dangerous driving conditions.
It’s a similar story in northern England; Temperatures range from freezing to -2C as far south as Manchester, while as far south as Kent they can reach a maximum of 4C.
The Met Office’s forecasts vary and acknowledge that snowfall is difficult to predict. Confidence in the prevailing weather forecast for the period from 1 March to 1 March is currently low.
The long-range forecast predicted: “There are signals for both unstable conditions, with a risk of heavy rain and possibly strong winds, as well as periods of drier, calmer weather, which could mean slightly cooler conditions.
“A more established pattern looks a little more likely early in this period, while more unstable conditions now look a little more likely towards the end of the period.”
