Police issue update after Andrew Tate and Tristan Tate arrested in US
UK prosecutors have authorized 38 new charges against Andrew and Tristan Tate over alleged sexual offences, bringing the total number of charges the brothers face to 59.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the couple were arrested by the US Marshals Service in Miami on Saturday in connection with allegations from four other victims. They have since requested to be extradited to the United Kingdom, where they face possible prosecution for alleged crimes including rape, sexual assault and sex trafficking.
The UK Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said Andrew was charged with seven counts of rape, as well as charges relating to sex trafficking and indecent images of a child. Tristan’s charges include two counts of rape and three counts of organizing or facilitating human trafficking for sexual exploitation. Both Tates have repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
Assistant Chief Constable Karena Thomas, of Bedfordshire Police, said in a video posted on social media that the charges relate to seven victims dating back to 2010 to 2017.
She confirmed the brothers had been detained and urged the public “not to speculate” and to “allow the legal process to be carried out correctly”.
“I want to make it clear that there is no place for male violence against women and girls in our society and we will continue to work tirelessly to support victims and investigate all reports made to us,” she continued.
Social media influencer Andrew Tate, 39, is charged with seven counts of rape, three counts of organizing or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and 19 additional charges for offenses relating to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography.
Tristan Tate, 38, is charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape and three counts of organizing or facilitating human trafficking for sexual exploitation.
Malcolm McHaffie, head of the Crown Prosecution Service’s special crime section, said: “We have decided to prosecute Andrew and Tristan Tate for other offences, including rape, arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation and offenses relating to indecent images of a child.
“These charging decisions follow the receipt of a new evidence file from Bedfordshire Police, bringing the total number of alleged victims in this case to seven.
“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds everyone that the criminal case is active and these defendants are entitled to a fair trial.
“It is extremely important that there is no news, commentary or sharing of information online that could prejudice these proceedings in any way.
“The CPS has requested the Tates’ extradition from the US. They have been arrested and are awaiting extradition to the UK.”
Both Andrew and Tristan Tate are also facing legal proceedings in Romania, where they currently live, and were already facing the possibility of being extradited to the UK once the proceedings are completed, after Bedfordshire Police issued a European arrest warrant for the pair in 2024.
While the pair have previously “absolutely” denied any wrongdoing, Andrew Tate has described himself and his brother as “very innocent people”.
In June, attempts to launch a legal challenge against the CPS over its failure to disclose the names of alleged victims in UK criminal cases were rejected by a High Court judge.
Lawyer Matt Jury of McCue Jury & Partners, who represents four of Andrew Tate’s alleged British victims, said: “Andrew Tate now faces the prospect of extradition to the UK after years of public campaigning by four British women I represent.
“They have fought for action for years and I am now calling on authorities to ensure this case progresses as quickly as possible.
“Andrew and Tristan Tate are accused of some of the most serious crimes, including multiple counts of rape and human trafficking. It’s time they face justice.”
