Police launch murder probe into death of former Tory minister and Reform UK spokeswoman

London: British police said they had launched a murder investigation into the death of 78-year-old former government minister Ann Widdecombe, whose death was announced early on Friday.
Widdecombe was a Conservative member of parliament between 1987 and 2010 and held various ministerial posts in former prime minister John Major’s government.
“Our murder investigation is still in its early stages but is progressing at a significant pace,” Devon and Cornwall Police said in a statement on Friday (Saturday morning AEST).
“We are using all necessary resources to find out exactly what happened and find the person responsible, who we believe is a white male.”
Police said they were called to Widdecombe’s address around noon on Thursday, where he was found to have serious injuries and was pronounced dead.
“The property remains cordoned off while specialist police continue forensic examinations,” the statement said.
