Police press dozens of charges

A man was arrested at the entrance to Brisbane’s Clem7 tunnel and another was coaxed off the roof and charged with more than two dozen offenses between the two.

Police on patrol in Woolloongabba and Annerley on Tuesday afternoon noticed the pair driving a suspected stolen vehicle on Ipswich Road near the southern entrance to the tunnel.

Officers had received reports of stolen vehicles in the same area hours earlier and were on alert.

With the help of a police helicopter and canine team, a man in his 20s was taken into custody just inside Clem7 shortly before 4.30pm.

The second man is alleged to have fled into suburban streets near the Norman Hotel in Woolloongabba.

He then climbed a two-story house and remained on the roof for hours while police negotiated with him on the street below.

The man surrendered around 19.30 in the evening and was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries he received while walking on the streets.

Police charged the man arrested in the tunnel with eight offenses on Wednesday morning. The second man was charged with 17 offences.

The pair appeared in the Brisbane Remand Court and were due to appear in court again in mid-January.
