Police probe Yes Scotland campaign’s ‘missing £1.5m’ claim

Police are launching an investigation after a complaint was made about the finances of Yes Scotland, the group that campaigned for independence in the 2014 referendum.
Sunday Post, external It reported allegations that more than £1.5 million in income was left unaccounted for.
The newspaper said the complaint was made by David Henry, one of the men whose concerns about the SNP’s finances led to the Operation Branchform investigation and the conviction of former chief executive Peter Murrell.
Yes Scotland Ltd, set up by former SNP leader and First Minister Alex Salmond to campaign for independence ahead of the referendum, has not operated since 2014.
The latest set of dormant accounts was released last year and showed a zero balance.
The SNP said Yes Scotland Ltd was a “completely separate organisation” from the party.
Henry told the Sunday Mail that his campaign company’s accounts from 2016 showed a zero balance and the £1.5 million previously recorded appeared to be “just gone”.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We have received a complaint and investigations are ongoing.”
