Police search for e-bike riders after they pelt bus with rocks in Currumbin, causing crash
Police are searching for a group of e-bike riders who threw rocks at a Gold Coast bus, causing it to veer off the road and crash.
The group ambushed the passenger bus on Teemangum Street in Currumbin at around 11.23pm and started throwing stones at it.
The vehicle with 5 passengers inside crashed into a tree when the driver lost control of the steering wheel.
Police confirmed in a statement that the driver was taken to Robina Hospital for precautionary observation.
“Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.”
Tom Kinsey, general manager of Kinetic, the company that owns the buses, said in a statement that neither the driver nor any of the passengers were injured, but the company expressed its anger over the incident.
“This was an extremely distressing incident for the bus driver and passengers involved and we are in contact with those affected to offer support,” he said.
“Attacks against our drivers and passengers are absolutely unacceptable. We strongly condemn any behavior that risks the safety of our drivers, passengers in the vehicle and the society.
