Police shoot driver of car allegedly used to attack officers

A man who allegedly used a stolen car to pin a police officer between two vehicles was taken to hospital after being shot by police trying to arrest him.
The incident occurred in the Punchbowl area in Sydney’s west after police spotted a stolen Toyota CHR and attempted to arrest the man behind the wheel.
According to police, the vehicle was stopped in traffic at the intersection of Juno Parade and Punchbowl Road, and when an officer “approached the vehicle to arrest the driver,” “the vehicle accelerated and pinned the sergeant between the two vehicles.”
“The officer discharged his firearm and struck the Toyota before driving toward it,” police said.
“NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and treated the 39-year-old police officer for an injury to his lower leg. He was taken to hospital in a stable condition.”
Shortly after the incident occurred, officers were called to Thorn Street in Ryde after reports said an injured man was seen walking down the street.

Police found the allegedly stolen Toyota abandoned in Richard Johnson Crescent and then found a man suffering from gunshot wounds sitting in the garden of a house in Squires Street.
NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and provided aid to the 32-year-old man before taking him to hospital in a stable condition.
He remains in hospital under police guard.
Police have urged anyone with information, footage or footage of the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.
