Police swarm Arndale Centre food court as ‘suspicious dark substance’ sparks evacuation | UK | News

A food court in a UK city was evacuated after a container filled with “suspicious dark powdery substance” was found. On Wednesday evening, January 7, police descended on the Arndale food court. The fire brigade also came to the scene. MEN reports.
The distressing discovery led to the evacuation of the area by food court staff. But police said a “viable risk” was not immediately identified.
A statement made by Greater Manchester Police said: “We are currently at the Arndale Center following a report of a suspicious dark powder substance being found in a container in the dining area.
“The area has been evacuated by staff purely as a precaution and we are working to make sure everything is OK.
“No applicable risks have been identified at this time and we will seek to return the Center to normal as soon as possible.
“We thank those in the area for their cooperation in ensuring the area is safe.”
