Police swarm town centre after ‘serious incident’ | UK | News
Reporting that a serious incident had occurred, the police rushed to the district center. Manchester Police said two people were seriously injured following an incident in Altrincham in the early hours of this morning.
Greater Manchester’s leafy town, famous for its vibrant indoor food market, is close to some of Cheshire’s wealthiest villages and boasts boutiques, independent shops and grammar schools.
Police said they were called shortly after 3.20am to reports of a disturbance on Railway Street.
Two people were seriously injured in the incident; One suffered life-threatening injuries and the other suffered life-changing injuries.
While a man was detained for questioning, the investigation continues.
Manchester Police said the incident was believed to be isolated and reassured the public that a large number of officers remained in the area.
The force, based in north-west England, said on Sunday morning: “Officers are currently responding to a serious incident in Altrincham town centre.
“Shortly after 3.20am we were called to reports of a disturbance on Railway Street in Altrincham town centre, where two men were seriously injured.
“Emergency services arrived at the scene and took two men to hospital. It was stated that one had life-threatening injuries and the other was life-changing.
“A male has been detained and is being held for questioning but the investigation is ongoing.
“Police would like to reassure the public that this incident is believed to be isolated and there are a number of officers in the area. Businesses in the local area are likely to be affected whilst officers carry out investigations.”
Traffic monitoring site Inrix reported that Stamford New Road was closed due to the incident.
They said: “The A538 Stamford New Road is closed in both directions from Regent Road to Regent Road due to police incident. Altrincham Change.”
