Police track multiple leads after 12 shot near Toledo street festival

A manhunt for gunmen who wounded a dozen victims near a street festival in Toledo, Ohio, over the weekend entered its third day without an arrest Monday as police said investigators were following “multiple leads.”

In a brief update posted on social media Sunday, Toledo police said investigators continue to make progress on leads. Police asked festival attendees to come with photos or videos that might show the suspects.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting around 5:37 p.m. Saturday near the popular annual Old West End Festival, where hundreds of people enjoy live music, food vendors and house tours, and found the man with multiple gunshot wounds.

All 12 victims were in stable condition and continuing to improve as of Sunday, police said. The victims ranged in age from 14 to 61, with most in their early 20s.

Toledo Deputy Chief Joseph Heffernan said at a news conference that investigators believe the attack was carried out by at least two gunmen who were “possibly shooting at each other.”

Authorities have not released any suspect descriptions or identified a possible motive.

Lucas County Prosecutor Julia Bates promised that “justice will be swift and strong.”

“Those who are afraid, traumatized or harmed by this violence will continue to be at the forefront of our efforts,” Bates said in a statement. he said. “I’ve been angry before, but this is a personal situation. This is my home. These are my friends and neighbors. This is not right.”
