Union Minister Kishan Reddy urges Tamil Nadu to support critical mineral projects

Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy on Sunday (June 21, 2026) appealed to the government and people of Tamil Nadu for their support in purchasing lands acquired for projects related to mining of critical minerals.

Mr. Reddy was responding to a question regarding issues related to land acquisition for Neyveli Lignite Company’s (NLC) projects in Cuddalore district.

“I wanted the old [DMK] government and new [TVK] government too. I hope they will expand their cooperation on land acquisition policy, especially regarding critical minerals, and request the people of Tamil Nadu to also extend their possible support for land acquisition,” Mr. Reddy said, replying to a question at a press conference at the BJP’s State unit head office in Chennai.

The Union Minister said that the revenue generated by extraction of these minerals will go to the State government, including premium, royalty, DMF (District Mineral Foundation funds) and deduction. “Apart from this, DMF and CSR activities will benefit the affected areas,” Mr. Reddy said.

Replying to a question on possible expansion of NLC’s projects, the Union Minister maintained that it was an orderly process. When asked about Congress MP Vishnu Prasad’s allegations regarding alleged irregularities in the NLC, the Union Minister said, “I have taken views from the local government, the Collector and our own institutions. If there is anything small.” [issue]being corrected. “This is an ongoing process.”
