POLL: Should Nigel Farage allow Tory MPs to join Reform? | Politics | News

Kemi Badenoch Robert Jenrick’s dismissal His alleged defection plot has fueled speculation that the former Tory MP will join Reform UK. Had the former shadow justice secretary done so, he would have joined a growing cadre of former Tory MPs jumping ship, leading to criticism that Nigel Farage’s team has become another version of the Tory party.

This week saw former senior Tory Nadhim Zahawi join Reform’s staff. Other Conservatives joining Mr Farage’s ranks include Nadine Dorries, Andrea Jenkyns, Jake Berry, Jonathan Gullis and Danny Kruger.

Mr Farage denied Reform had become a retirement home for former Tories and argued the organization needed politicians with experience in government. But the list of former Conservatives joining Reform continues to grow.

The charge that Reform Britain is turning into Conservative Party 2.0 is the main line of attack from opponents, including Labor and the Liberal Democrats.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, commenting on Mr Jenrick, said the country was experiencing an influx of Conservative politicians and former politicians who joined Reform because they knew the Conservative Party was a sinking ship.

He added: “Equally, from the Reform perspective, you have Nigel Farage, who has welcomed these failed politicians into his ranks and built his party as the party of Tory politicians who have let the country down so badly.”

Mr Farage has previously said he expects more Tories to join Reform England and hinted that a Labor politician could join the alliance soon.

Reform’s leader has insisted the group is different, but the growing number of former Conservatives in its ranks risks Reform’s status as an upstart, anti-establishment rival to Labor and the Conservatives.
