Pope baptises 20 kids to mark end of Christmas season

Pope Leo

In his first christening as pope, Leo celebrated the Lord’s gift of faith in children, which he said gave meaning to the gift of life.

“When we know that something is needed, we immediately seek it for our loved ones. Who among us would leave a newborn baby unclothed or unfed, waiting for him to decide how to dress and what to eat when he grows up?” the Pope said. he said.

“Beloved, if food and clothing are necessary to live, faith is more than necessary, for life finds salvation with God,” he said.

The Pope himself performed the baptism ceremony on babies who were the children of Vatican employees working in the Vatican.

The parents, along with the babies’ godparents and siblings, approached the baptismal font, which was placed inside a bronze plinth representing the Tree of Life.

The ceremony took place without tears and minimal fuss.

The celebration commemorates the feast day of Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan River and was established in 1981 in St. Founded by John Paul II.

The event is depicted in a fresco by Pietro Perugino on the north wall of the Sistine Chapel.

During the ceremony, each father was given a candle, representing the Christian light that “lights our way.”

“I wish you to continue with joy throughout the new year and throughout your life, confident that the Lord will always accompany your steps.”
