Pope Leo says Israeli strikes on Qatar create ‘very serious’ situation

Vatican CITY (Reuters) – Pope Leo, who usually avoids talking from the headline, has an unusual concern about the consequences of Israel’s strike in Qatar on Tuesday.

“There is really serious news: Israel’s attack on some Hamas leaders in Qatar.”

“The whole situation is very serious,” Leo said. “We don’t know how things go. Really serious.”

Leo, the first US Pope, adopted a quieter diplomatic approach than its predecessor Pope Francis. Leo usually depends on the Vatican’s careful diplomatic language, but increases the criticism of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.

Last week, the Pope met with Isaac Herzog in the Vatican, and then the Vatican Leo’s Herzog burned “tragic situation in Gaza”.

Leo spoke after the news that Israel launched a strike in Doha and launched a strike for the best Hamas leaders, including Gaza chief and best negotiator Khalil Al-Hayya.

“We should continue to work and insist on peace.” He said.

Leo also, Francis, who often speaking with Gaza’s only Catholic Church’s priest Rev. Gabriel said he was trying to call it Romanelli.

The Vatican had never said that Leo had personally talked to Romanelli. The priest did not respond to a Reuters investigation at the beginning of this week.

On Tuesday, Leo spent on Tuesday at Castel Gandolfo, about one hour of driving in Rome and returned to the Vatican in the afternoon.
