Air India group active fleet shrinks while rivals expand summer capacity

The shrinking fleet makes the problem worse: According to Gagan Dixit, Senior Vice President, Aviation, Oil and Gas, Elara Capital, the Air India group operated around 258 aircraft in April-May, down 11% from the previous year; Air India alone had around 21 aircraft on the ground, double last year’s figure, and Air India Express stood idle with almost 12 aircraft, almost three times the previous year’s figure.
