Retired U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral and Port Canaveral commission chairman Wayne Justice passed away this week at the age of 70.
Justice retired from the U.S. Coast Guard as a Rear Admiral after a long career. He is a graduate of the Coast Guard Academy and Naval Academy and served in the Coast Guard for 37 years. He spent 12 years of his career in the cutters, specializing in drug, immigration and search and rescue patrols. He also spent three years as military aide to Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, when his responsibilities included potential enforcement of nuclear laws.
Port Commissioner Jerry Allender said his colleague’s passing would be a “tremendous” loss for Port Canaveral. He said Justice was someone who was proud of his work not only at the Port but also in the Coast Guard service. “We were both elected to the Port Authority in 2010 and were close friends who worked diligently for the Port. The Port was everything to Wayne. He was extremely involved in the Port’s operations and helping make the Port what it is today,” Allender said.
“As a commissioner, he was very involved in the day-to-day operations of the Port. Wayne was outstanding at spending time behind the scenes and always promoted Port Canaveral while in Brevard County or while traveling,” he added.
