President Donald Trump outlined five key items he believes will swing the upcoming midterm elections in the GOP’s favor if Republicans can overpower Congress.
“No transgender mutilation surgery for our children,” Trump told the audience at the Republican Members’ Issues Conference. “Voter ID, citizenship [verification]Mail-in ballots, we don’t want men playing women’s sports.”
“Trump at his best. These are Trump’s best. Trump said that should be the House’s top priority.
Trump’s recommendations to Republican lawmakers come as the GOP is waging a tough campaign to retain controlling majorities in the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.
Trump has framed his legislative priorities as a way for Republicans to capitalize on popular demands among the GOP base that will increase their chances of preserving the Republican governing trio.

HOUSE REPUBLICANS INCREASE ELECTION RENEWAL WITH VOTER ID AND MAIL-BALLOT COUNT CHANGES AHEAD OF MIDTERM
Republicans currently hold just four more seats than Democrats in the House of Representatives.
The GOP has six more votes in the Senate than the Democrats.
To keep the numbers in their favor, Republicans will need to overcome historical trends. In the vast majority of past cases, parties that capture the White House in presidential elections face backlash in midterm elections. Notably, the last time a party won majorities in both houses of Congress in midterm elections was under the Bush administration in 2002, following the devastating attacks on the World Trade Center.

Trump said he believes Republicans have a chance to reverse that trend in November if they focus on his own ticket.
“This will ensure midterm elections,” Trump said of his legislative priorities.
Republicans have already struck against the two through the SAVE America Act, a law that requires proof of citizenship to vote and vote. This bill was approved by the Parliament for the second time in the 119th Congress last month.
Its future is uncertain in the Senate, where Republicans will need the help of seven Democrats to clear the 60-vote threshold to defeat a filibuster. Democrats, however, believe the law would disenfranchise voters who cannot easily provide proof of citizenship through a passport, REAL ID or birth certificate.

Many members introduced bills related to transgender issues, but none received parliamentary approval.
““I have never been more confident that if we keep these promises and deliver on this popular agenda, the American people will be with us in overwhelming numbers, just as they will in 2024,” Trump said.
