Katy Perry investigated over Ruby Rose sex abuse claims

American pop superstar Katy Perry is being investigated over allegations of historical sexual assault against Australian actor and model Ruby Rose.
Victoria Police confirmed on Wednesday that sex crimes detectives were investigating allegations of a historic assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010.
“Police were told the incident occurred at a licensed premises in the Melbourne CBD,” a spokesman said.
In response to a post on social media platform Threads on Sunday, Rose claimed Perry “sexually assaulted me at the Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne.”
The former star of Orange Is The New Black said she placed her head on a friend’s lap to avoid Perry when the singer pulled his own underwear aside and “rubbed” his genitals on Rose’s face.
One of the posts said this triggered Rose, now 40, to vomit on Perry.
The actor, who was born in Melbourne and hosted several Australian TV shows before moving to Hollywood, responded to the comments by saying Perry was “welcome to sue.”
“He won’t because it happened, I have photos of it, and more than one person witnessed it,” he added.
Rose followed up with the sexual assault accusation a day later, saying she would report the allegations “to see if my experiences could be investigated.”
“I think they’re past their statute of limitations, but even more reason to try,” he wrote on Threads.
“I have been so hurt for years and afraid to take appropriate steps because I know the system rarely works.”
In his “final” update on Tuesday evening, Rose said he had completed all of his reports and could not comment, repost or speak publicly about the people involved.
“This is a standard request from the police, and in many ways it’s quite comforting,” he said in another Threads post.
“I can begin the healing process now. And I can move forward temporarily.”
Perry’s representatives were contacted for comment, but many other outlets were told Rose’s claims were “not only categorically false, but dangerously reckless lies.”
The singer, whose songs include I Kissed a Girl, Firework and Roar, performed at the 2024 AFL Grand Final.
Rose’s allegations emerged in a resurfaced interview with Pitch Perfect actress Anna Kendrick on Conan O’Brien’s US talk show in 2014, in which Rose claimed Perry touched her during the Grammy Awards.
“Katy Perry fingered my cleavage. It was a weird night,” Kendrick said as the audience laughed and cheered.
“He’s very mature.”
“Okay…is that how he does it?” host O’Brien replied.
Kendrick said her strapless dress “kinda wanted that.”
“I’ve met him before… he’s aggressive. I liked it,” he said.
Perry is dating former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, and the pair were recently seen dancing together at Justin Bieber’s Coachella festival performance.
