PPL seeks approval for lower rate hike

(WHTM) — A Pennsylvania energy company is asking state regulators to approve a smaller distribution rate increase in the fall than they originally requested.

PPL Electric Utilities filed a petition for settlement in the rate case with the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission on Friday.

In September, PPL asked the regulator to approve a distribution rate increase that would generate $356.2 million in revenue. This would add about $13 per month to the average residential customer’s bill, or about a 7% increase.

In October, the PUC voted to halt the rate hike pending an investigation.

Public hearings were held in December, and some organizations and public officials sent letters opposing the rate increase. Luzerne County Council And Senator Judy Ward (R-Blair/Mifflin/Fulton).

Under the proposal submitted Friday, PPL is seeking a $257 million increase in the distribution rate. If approved, it would go into effect on or after July 1.

This would include a 4.9% increase for the average residential customer, or about $8.65 per month.
