Prakasam District Gets ₹920-crore Boost for Horticulture

Nellore: The Andhra Pradesh government has sanctioned a massive package of ₹ 920 crore to the erstwhile Prakasam district under the Integrated Horticulture Development (IHD) Project (IHDP) for development of rural roads and irrigation facilities over the next three years.

Announcing the approval of the package on Sunday, Minister of Social Welfare Dr. Dola Sri Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy said irrigation will help local farmers develop horticulture projects, while rural roads will enable farmers to quickly transport horticultural produce to markets.

Dr. Swamy thanked Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan for giving such significant support to Prakasam district.

The Minister said that the HRA project will cover both Prakasam and Markapuram districts.

Apart from strengthening rural road connectivity, the project will also prioritize major irrigation works, including Veligonda Phase-II, Korisapadu Reservoir and Paleru Reservoir projects, to support horticultural development across the region.

The minister said the project will transform the rural landscape of the two regions by improving road connectivity and creating a strong foundation for horticulture-led growth. He expressed confidence that the program will significantly increase the cultivation of horticultural crops and help the region become a major horticultural centre.

Dr. Swamy pointed out that the project will help create significant direct and indirect employment opportunities for youth while accelerating the overall economic development in the region.

Reiterating his gratitude to the CM and Deputy CM, he underlined that the allocation reflects the state government’s determination to develop the erstwhile Prakasam district and improve the economic condition of the farming community.
