PRCs Cannot Be Issued Without Proper Verification: Telangana BJP Chief

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP President N Ramchander Rao on Saturday opposed the issuance of Permanent Residence Certificates (PRCs) without proper verification, claiming that such a move could pose security risks and undermine efforts to detect illegal immigrants.

Speaking to ANI, Rao alleged that both the Congress and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) were demanding the granting of PRC without adequate verification. He said the Congress had raised the issue in Karnataka, while the AIMIM had made a similar demand in Telangana.

“In Karnataka and Telangana, political parties like Congress and AIMIM are demanding the issuance of PRC, Permanent Residence Certificate. AIMIM’s demand in Telangana is also the same as the demand made by Congress in Karnataka. However, this Permanent Residence Certificate will cause many security concerns and this certificate cannot be issued without verification.”

“The survey is followed by the question of PRC. But AIMIM and Congress are demanding that PRC be published only now. So this is something that defeats the Government of India’s attempt to clear illegal immigrants from the country,” he added.

Rao said PRC should be issued only after necessary checks. “Permanent Residence Certificate without verification will allow some illegal immigrants to settle here and present themselves as citizens of India. Therefore, before issuing PRC to any person, a proper verification must be done anywhere in the country and there must be rules to be strictly followed and PRC cannot be issued without proper verification,” he said.

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana has reached the final stage of counting form distribution and 99 per cent of the forms have already been distributed.
