Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday, April 3, 2026, highlighted UP’s model of dealing with “insurgents” and asserted that only the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has the capacity to rid Assam of “infiltrators” and prevent any demographic change.
While addressing an election rally for Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate Dipak Kumar Das in Western Assam’s Muslim-majority Barpeta district, he alluded to the similarity between “rebels” in his state and “intruders” in Assam.
“There are no riots in Uttar Pradesh, there is no curfew and everything is fine. No one can pray on the streets and there is no shouting from any place of worship. If anyone dares to create trouble, their properties are confiscated and distributed among the poor and Dalits,” he said, stressing that rioters and infiltrators have no rights.
Mr. Adityanath accused the Congress of playing with Assam’s culture and trying to change the demographics of the state. He said decades of Congress rule had weakened the internal security and social fabric of the state.
“Congress has only encouraged infiltration, violence and riots, threatening local culture and heritage… They have tried to usurp your rights and take away your lands and resources,” he said.
Mr. Adityanath also criticized the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), accusing the party of gaining power with the support of infiltrators. He alleged that the Congress and the AIUDF were working together in ways that could “compromise the culture and heritage of the State”.
Asserting that the BJP-led NDA guaranteed stability, he said it would ensure law and order while cracking down on illegal entrants. “Any infiltrator will be identified and expelled from Assam,” he said, emphasizing the BJP’s resolve to stop “love jihad” and “land jihad”.
The Prime Minister also said that the NDA is committed to development while nurturing heritage.
Elections to the 126-member Assam Assembly are scheduled to be held on April 9. The census will be held on May 4.
