Vodafone Idea Rules Out Immediate Structural Price Hike

New Delhi: Leading telecom operator Vodafone Idea has no plans to go for an increase in overall rates yet, but would prefer to make minor adjustments to the existing mobile tariff, a senior official said on Friday.

The mobile tariff hike issue comes after Bharti Airtel recently increased its prepaid mobile recharge plan by around 4-5 percent and analysts have predicted that telecom operators may increase tariffs by around 15 percent in the first half of this year.

Responding to the tariff issue, Vodafone Idea managing director Abhijit Kishore said there will be minor adjustments but overall it will not be a structural increase as you see. “Because the ongoing minor tariff adjustments are driven by current market conditions,” he said on the sidelines of the COAI Digicom Summit 2026.

According to the latest Trai report, the company, which had recorded a decline in subscriber base in the last few years, showed improvement in the number of subscribers in February and March. Vi added more than 1 lakh mobile subscribers in March. “The government has shown confidence in the company as a major shareholder and the company is focusing on improving performance,” Kishore said.

“The government is a 49 per cent stakeholder and we really value that. We are working on what we need to do, improving performance as you see in the subscriber initiative. We had given a report in early February-March, which is public,” he added.
