President Murmu to Offer Prayers at Sabarimala Temple

Thiruvananthapuram: President Droupadi Murmu will offer prayers at the Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala on Wednesday.

The President, who arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday evening on a four-day official visit to the southern state, left for Pathanamthitta district, where the hilltop temple is located, this morning.

The President’s convoy left Raj Bhavan for the airport at 7.25 am. From there, he will take a helicopter to Pramadam in Pathanamthitta district before proceeding to Pamba on the outskirts of Sabarimala.

Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) officials stated that all arrangements have been made for President Murmu’s visit to Sabarimala.

The convoy consisting of five four-wheel drive vehicles and an ambulance will reach Sannidhanam via Swami Ayyappan Road and the traditional walking path. TDB officials added that security was strengthened and a convoy rehearsal was held recently.

After darshan, he will return to Thiruvananthapuram in the evening.

He will unveil the bust of former President KR Narayanan at Raj Bhavan on Thursday.

Later, he will inaugurate the Mahasamadhi Centenary celebrations of Sree Narayana Guru at Sivagiri Mutt in Varkala and attend the valedictory ceremony of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of St Thomas’ College at Pala in Kottayam district.

President Murmu will complete his visit to Kerala by attending the centenary celebrations of St Teresa’s College in Ernakulam on October 24.

He was welcomed by Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, other public representatives and senior officials at the international airport on Tuesday.
