President Trump says Schumer ‘made a mistake’ as some Dems turn on him

President Donald Trump argued that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer “went too far” as some Democrats called for a replacement of party leaders during a wide-ranging interview on “The Ingraham Angle” on Monday.
“I think he made a mistake in going too far,” Trump told Fox News host Laura Ingraham. “He thought he could break the Republicans, and the Republicans broke him.”

Eight senators broke ranks with the Democratic Party on Sunday and voted for the House-passed spending plan to reopen the government that their Democratic colleagues blocked 14 times. The Senate voted 60-40 on Monday to end the government shutdown, with a final vote heading to the House later this week.
Just like Democrats love Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) calls for Schumer’s replacement as a result, saying he has “never seen a politician change this much.”
“I feel bad because I know Chuck Schumer,” Trump said. “I’ve known him since he was a person who loved Israel, and now he’s a Palestinian. He’s become a Palestinian… I’ve never seen a politician change this much.”

The longest government shutdown in history occurred around Congress’s debate on extending Obamacare subsidies and led to thousands of workers being furloughed, flights canceled across the country and food aid ending.

The president argued that the real motivation behind Democrats’ fight was the desire to expand subsidies.
““What they really wanted was $1.5 trillion for people who were entering and leaving prisons illegally,” Trump said.
“We’re trying to get them out because we don’t want 11,000 murderers in our country. You don’t. Nobody wants that,” Trump emphasized. “We have drug dealers and everything else, and they wanted to make sure they had good health care.”

Trump added that paying for health care for illegal immigrants would “hurt other people’s health care.”
The president later dismissed Obamacare as “terrible” health insurance that was too expensive.
“Premiums have gone up like rocket ships,” Trump complained. “And I’m not even talking about recently, I’m talking about them being on the rise for years.”

Instead, he advocated for insurance holders to “feel like entrepreneurs.”
“Instead of going to insurance companies, I want the money to go into an account for people where people buy their own health insurance,” Trump said. “They can actually go out and negotiate their own insurance.”
Ingraham previewed a new bill when she asked the president how Republicans could prevent another government shutdown on Jan. 30, 2026, when current funding levels expire.

““We’re trying to put in a bill you know, or we’re trying to put in a bill where you can never do that again,” Trump responded, adding, “You can’t just shut down the government because you’re trying to renegotiate a deal you didn’t make.”
