Prince Andrew latest: Former royal ‘refused to sign off statements supporting abuse survivors’

The King’s brother, who has denied the allegations against him, now has no one to protect him, the broadcaster told the BBC.

He said Andrew was “buried alive” and was “astonished” by plans to strip him of his final military honours.

“But I wonder if Americans will think, ‘okay, now we can go after him.’ I predict he will be in an American prison within the next five years.”

He added: “I think they’re going to start some extradition proceedings on him. Because he doesn’t have any protection anymore… This should be a signal to the FBI and others that they can now properly investigate him.”

Sandringham is the private home of the last six British monarchs, set amid parklands, gardens and working farms about 110 miles (180 kilometers) north of London. It has been owned by the royal family since 1862, passing directly from one monarch to another for more than 160 years.

It is recorded as “Sant Dersingham” or the sandy part of Dersingham in the Domesday Book, the land survey of England compiled by William the Conqueror in 1086. This was shortened to Sandringham in later years.

Queen Victoria bought Sandringham for her eldest son Edward in 1862; largely in the hope that being a country gentleman would keep the playboy prince out of trouble in the nightclubs of London, Paris, Monte Carlo and Biarritz. The future Edward VII transformed the estate into a modern rural retreat to be passed down from one generation to the next.

Since then, rulers have inherited it and loved it. Charles was a fan of a young boy who attended shooting parties in the 1950s; One photo captured him sitting on horseback, blowing a miniature hunting trumpet.

Defense Secretary Andrew Mountbatten said Windsor would be stripped of his honorary rank of vice-admiral.

Andrew became vice admiral on his 55th birthday in 2015 and retained the rank in 2022 after giving up his other military duties.

John Healey told the BBC’s program with Laura Kuenssberg on Sunday: “Broadly speaking, the Government is guided by the decisions and judgments that the King makes.

“The situation is exactly the same in defence. We have seen Andrew give up honorary positions throughout the military and again be manipulated by the King. We are now working to remove the last title of vice admiral he held.”

Asked whether Andrew might also lose his military medals, Mr Healey said they were “medals awarded for his service” and added: “I don’t have any update for you on that but, just like the rank and title of vice-admiral, we will act on the King’s decisions.”

The BBC revealed Andrew arranged a private tour of Buckingham Palace for businessmen from cryptocurrency mining company Pegasus Group Holdings, which agreed to pay his ex-wife up to £1.4 million.

The company hired Sarah Ferguson as a “brand ambassador” for a crypto mining scheme that made investors millions when it failed.

It is claimed he was paid more than £200,000 for his work and was entitled to an additional bonus of £1.2 million, according to a leaked contract.

Andrew was now officially stripped of his princely titles and essentially became a commoner.
