A young prince died after drinking a cocktail of drugs and alcohol in an £862-a-night London hotel. Abdullah bin Fahad bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Jalawi al Saud, 29, from Saudi Arabia, was almost three times the drink-driving limit; His blood alcohol concentration (BAC) read 0.222%. The legal limit in Britain is 0.08%. The inquest also heard traces of gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) and Xanax were found in his system. The prince was found in his bathroom by a staff member of the Marriott Hotel in Kensington in November.
Before his death, Al Saud was a patient at the Priory Clinic in Roehampton. A single week’s stay there could set you back more than £50,000. Consultant psychiatrist Dr. Victoria Chamorro told the inquest: “He was supportive and kind to his peers, making friends.” He added: “On admission he was assessed as showing signs of low mood and anxiety.” The expert also said Al Saud was “assessed not to be at risk of suicide” when he was discharged.
“He was discharged with a friend but was unable to attend later scheduled Zoom appointments,” Chamorro added, according to The Telegraph.
“But he had no concerns. He was well engaged and completed his treatment.”
The Saudi Royal Court said after the prince’s death: “Prince Abdullah bin Fahd bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed bin Jalawi Al Saud, who is outside the Kingdom, is at the mercy of Allah Almighty and will be performed today, Tuesday, 11/6/1447 AH, after the afternoon prayer at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.”
He continued: “May Allah grant him His mercy, forgiveness and acceptance and grant him a comfortable place in paradise, for we are Allah and to Him we will return.”
Al Saud was the Saudi President of the federation, which oversees national horse racing, show jumping and endurance equestrian initiatives.
Because he was part of the Al Jalawi branch of the royal family, he was not in the direct line of succession.
Following his death, a royal funeral was held in Riyadh.
