Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Australia tour funded partly by taxpayers | Royal | News

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s tour of Australia is being partially funded by taxpayers, according to Australian police. Harry, 41, will descend Down Under next week to begin a private tour with Meghan Markle, 44, which is their first visit to the country since 2018.

A police force spokesman said: “The New South Wales (NSW) Police Force will be carrying out an operation to ensure public safety is maintained during the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s visit. The operation will require some additional security measures during their stay in New South Wales, as well as minimizing any disruption to the community.”

NSW Police usually provide standard services free of charge, but events requiring increased security may require a formal agreement for organizers to cover the extra costs.

As reported MirrorA Victoria Police spokesperson also said: “Police routinely assess incidents and visits and deploy resources as necessary to ensure the safety of the community. Victoria Police does not comment on specific operational arrangements.”

Part of the itinerary includes Meghan as a special guest speaker at “Her Best Life” intimate luxury women’s retreat, run by the company co-founded by Jackie “O” Henderson and her manager Gemma O’Neill, and held from April 17-19 at the InterContinental Hotel Coogee Beach in Sydney.

Her Best Life Retreat draws a sold-out audience of about 300 people to a hotel overlooking Coogee Beach. Those who purchase VIP packages will be seated in the front row and have a group photo taken with Meghan at the InterContinental Hotel premiere.

The remainder of their trip will include talks focusing on mental health, community resources and veteran-related issues, with specific details to be announced.

Although the official 2018 tour was in the name of the late Queen, it was also linked to the Invictus Games in Sydney.
