Prince Harry begins his UK visit with a court verdict

The Duke of Sussex will begin a week of engagements after returning to the UK, kicking off with an event in London for the Invictus Games, the charity for injured military veterans.

On Tuesday, he will also learn the outcome of a lawsuit filed by the prince and others against Daily Mail publisher Associated Newspapers, alleging illegal dossier collection.

Prince Harry will attend the events alone as his wife Meghan and children Archie and Lilibet are not in London due to security concerns.

There was confusion over the visit when Prince Harry announced that his team’s invitation to stay at Buckingham Palace had been accepted.

However, the Palace rejected the offer, saying the prince was told on Saturday that he could not stay because he did not respond to the invitation in time.

Starting on Tuesday, there will be five days of events showcasing the prince’s support for a number of UK charities and boosting support for the Invictus Games. This includes a visit to Birmingham later in the week, this time next year.

His visit coincided with the outcome published on Tuesday of a case against Associated Newspapers brought by a number of prominent figures, including Sir Elton John, Sir Simon Hughes, Liz Hurley, Sadie Frost and Baroness Doreen Lawrence.

They alleged that the newspaper group that publishes the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday used illegal methods to obtain information about the news; these claims were vehemently denied by the publishers.

This is the latest in a series of courtroom battles by Prince Harry against the dishonest practices of the UK press, and is expected to be the last.

If the outcome of the case is that the judge supports some claims and rejects others, all parties are likely to claim victory.
