The High Court has heard that Prince Harry will begin giving evidence in his case against the publisher of the Daily Mail on Wednesday.

The Duke of Sussex, Sir Elton John, his husband David Furnish, campaigner Baroness Doreen Lawrence, politician Sir Simon Hughes and actresses Sadie Frost and Liz Hurley are taking legal action against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) over allegations of illegal information collection.

On Monday and Tuesday the court heard details of Harry’s “distress” and “paranoia” after a number of articles appeared in newspapers, some of which included intimate details of his relationship with ex-girlfriend Chelsy Davy.

This included “sleeping arrangements” and Harry giving Miss Davy a “set of keys”, as well as regular visits to her home in Belgravia.

David Sherborne, representing the duke, told the court the former couple’s efforts were “completely frustrated” by the illegal actions of private detectives working for ANL.

Discussing an article by journalist Rebecca English in the Daily Mail, which included travel plans for a holiday in Africa, the barrister said: “Not only were they intrusive, they had serious security implications.”

ANL has denied the charges and the trial will last over nine weeks.

Harry, Sir Elton John, husband David Furnish, campaigner Baroness Doreen Lawrence, politician Sir Simon Hughes and actresses Sadie Frost and Liz Hurley are taking legal action against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) over allegations of illegal information collection.

This includes allegations that information about the articles was obtained by carrying out or commissioning illegal activities such as wiretapping and “spoofing” private records.

ANL has vehemently denied any wrongdoing and is defending the allegations.

Harry attended court on Monday and proceedings began on Tuesday, but he was seen leaving the Royal Courts of Justice in London during the lunch break.

He was originally scheduled to give evidence on Thursday, but the plaintiffs’ and ANL’s opening submissions wrapped up earlier than expected on Tuesday.

David Sherborne, who represents the group, said he would “make efforts to have the Duke of Sussex here at 14:00 tomorrow.”

“I will do my best, we will inform the court and the defendant,” he said.
