Prince Harry denies ‘pointing the finger’ at King Charles and Diana | Royal | News

Prince Harry touched on the challenges of parenting, revealing that he received therapy before his eldest child, Prince Archie, was born. When Archie, now six, was born in 2019, Harry was still a working member of the Royal Family and living in the UK with his wife, Meghan Markle.

Speaking about becoming a parent at the Movember event in Melbourne today, the prince admitted he had been undergoing therapy before Archie was born to prepare for the big change in his life. He also made it clear that he hopes his children will be “one level up” from him as the generations learn from each other, but he does not see himself as one level above his parents.

Speaking at the event, the Duke of Sussex said: “I see parenting evolving over time. Our children are our upgrade. I’m not saying I’m improving my father (King Charles) or that my children are improving me, but in today’s world the children we raise need to be upgraded too.”

“The truth is, no matter how you parent, it’s a personal experience for you and you’ll want to improve on it.

“Obviously there wasn’t social media 40 years ago, so this is just one example of conversations that never existed between me and my family that are now happening in homes between kids and their parents.”

Harry also announced at the event, which aims to raise awareness about men’s mental health, that he sought therapy before having children in order to be the best version of himself.

She explained: “Certainly from a therapy standpoint, you want to be the best version of yourself for your children.

“And I knew that there were things from the past that I needed to deal with, and so I needed to prepare to basically cleanse myself of the past.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were not accompanied by their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet on their tour in Australia this week.
