Prince Harry’s back-and-forth about the fight for security ahead of his visit to the UK is under fire as an insider talks about royal security. The Duke of Sussex will depart from California in July, but questions remain about whether his wife Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will accompany him.
The Sussexes are expected to return to the UK for the first time since 2022 for Meghan, Archie and Lilibet, but Prince Harry’s ongoing battle for safety has led to claims and counter-claims over whether his family will be able to join him. The latest development was that Harry’s request for police protection was rejected, leading to reports that he was re-evaluating his options.
A prominent topic of discussion has been questions about their involvement, as well as questions about whether the family had been offered a stay at the royal residence by King Charles, despite no official instructions from the Palace.
Now, the views of an expert with deep knowledge of royal security have been shared in the latest episode of Daily Expresso.

Speaking to host JJ Anisiobi, TalkTV presenter Mark Dolan said: “I spoke to someone who has been closely involved with royal security for decades. He said: ‘This is all nonsense. This is politics. This is not security. It’s Harry flexing his muscles within the family.’
“He explained that while the RAVEC decision was paused, there was a police liaison for the security team dealing with Harry and Meghan. He also said it was clear that as long as Harry was on British soil he would be safe.”
Mr Dolan’s comments came after a spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex issued an impassioned statement in response to confusion ahead of the family’s return to the UK.
They said in a statement: “Prince Harry’s program in the UK includes both public and private activities across the country. Safe accommodation is only one element of an effective preventive security plan because risk follows the person, not the place.”

“There has never been a compromise. The issue is whether appropriate and proportionate protective security was provided for the entirety of the visit. The independent Risk Management Board that RAVEC decided was necessary last November has still not been established. It is therefore difficult to see how the proportionality of existing arrangements can be reliably maintained without this independent assessment.”
“The Duke continues to explore every option available to ensure the visit proceeds safely and gives his children the opportunity to enjoy the UK.”
Harry has faced a protracted legal battle with the Home Office over security arrangements for him and his family while in the UK after his level of protection changed when he left his job as a royal employee in 2020.
In May 2025, Harry lost a lawsuit to reinstate police protection upon his return to the UK. In a bombshell interview with the BBC following the decision, Harry said bringing his family to the UK was “too dangerous” because he could not guarantee their safety.
In December, it was claimed that Harry’s security access was under review while he was visiting the UK. However, no changes to the regulations were made public.
A government spokesman said: “The UK Government’s safeguarding system is stringent and proportionate. It is our long-standing policy not to provide detailed information about these arrangements as doing so could compromise their integrity and impact the safety of individuals.”
His statement also came after he said England was too dangerous for him and his family to return to. Asked in the ITV documentary Tabloids On Trial whether his legal battles were attracting more attention, Harry said: “There’s too much attention paid to me and my wife anyway. They’ve pushed me too far.”
“It’s still dangerous and all it takes is one actor, one person who reads these things, acts on what they read and decides whether it’s a knife or whether it’s acid or whatever it is, and those are really worrying things to me.”
